Linear Equations

Find the equation for a graph in the form y=mx+b when you are given two points on the graph.

Directions:

Enter the points in the form x,y with no spaces, for example, 3,4 or -2.3,5.72

The large text window will show the calculations steps for finding the slope from the two points and then substituting the x,y coordinates to find the value of the y-intercept, b
(Repeating decimals, etc. are truncated in the sample problems to make them easier to read)

Find the equation from two points on a grid:
Enter Point 1 (x1,y1)   Enter Point 2 (x2,y2)

slope (m) =

The equation is:

Solving Polynomials by Kramer's Rule

eg:
3x + 7y = 12
12x - 11y = 2

x + y =
x + y =

x:     y:

explanation:

Kramer's rule

for:
     ax + by = c
     dx + ey = f

the following can be applied:

     x = (c * e - b * f ) / (a * e - b * d)
     y = (a * f - e * d) / (a * e - b * d)

This is known as
Kramer's Rule.
